When Tom and I were planning our wedding, we were a little overwhelmed at the idea of planning a honeymoon simultaneously as the wedding itself. We decided instead to take our honeymoon about a month after the big day so we had time to power through our thank-you notes and decompress a bit. With that being said, we also knew we would not be ready to return to work the Monday after our wedding so we decided we needed a mini-moon, aka the new popular thing for newlyweds to do right after their wedding day. We had quite a few recommendations but decided we wanted somewhere cozy and close by that we could drive to for a few nights so I took the advice of one of my best friends and we went to Carmel Valley Ranch, aka CVR. Well oooooh boy, let me tell you, this was the BEST. DECISION. EVER. We checked in to the resort on Sunday, January 3rd and stayed for two nights (though I was ready to pretty much move in there). Ok, so let’s start from the beginning. We drove to Carmel from the city and it was a pretty rainy day. We stopped at a few wineries prior to checking in and everyone in the area could not have been sweeter, congratulating us left and right (we definitely had the wedding glow going on). When we did check in, the staff was incredible. Knowing we were there for our mini-moon, they gave us a few free wine tasting passes and told us to go check some of the additional the wineries out so they could finish preparing our upgraded room! Obviously we had no issue with that and we were off. Upon our return, one of the bell boys drove us in a golf cart to our room and OH MY GOSHHHHH, it was spectacular. We had a view of the golf course, 2 super cozy fireplaces, and a large tub on our back deck. In addition, they left us a bottle of champagne and some chocolate covered strawberries which was another added bonus. Needless to say, we were so pleased and knew we chose the perfect spot for such a cold rainy getaway.
Ok so a few highlights:
Infinity hot tub: Did you even know that infinity hot tub’s existed? I mean I get that it’s a similar idea to an infinity pool, but I definitely had never seen one until this location and an added bonus was that it was right over the golf course. The tub was massive, legit gigantic and we had it pretty much to ourselves. Checking in right after the New Year and on a Sunday left the resort basically empty so we totally felt like the whole place was ours, definitely awesome for a couple who is looking to decompress and just talk and talk and talk about their wedding. We brought some of our own wine with us to the pool and just hung out there for about 3 hours, no problemmmmm. The pool was of course right there as well and was beautiful but unfortunately since it was pretty chilly, we didn’t take a dip in it. No complaints though seeing as the hot tub was basically the size of a pool.
Fire Places: So I mentioned above that our room had two fireplaces, one in the living room area and the other in our bedroom that was two sided so if you sat on the deck, you could feel the heat from it as well as from the bedroom. However, when you get to the main lobby of the resort, there is a massive fire pit in the pool area that is used for not only warmth, but for smore’s that anyone (I mean kids!) can make at night. It was so cozy and romantic, we spent a lot of time sitting around the fire and drinking some delicious Pinot. Inside the main lobby, they had this killer long gas fireplace that Tom and I wished we could take home with us; it had this roaring fire and we couldn’t take our eyes off of it. Needless to say, this resort is the spot to be for a winter getaway.
So basically, in the end, all I can say is make sure to add this spot to your list of places to stay while in California. Whats so awesome at this hotel is that as cozy and warm as it is during the winter months, it’s swanky, sexy, and, gorgeous during the warmer months. You can’t go wrong no matter what time of year you’re there so just make sure you make a reservation because this place is pretty difficult to get a reservation at. Thanks CVR for giving my husband and I a mini-moon we will truly never forget.
